HGTV Dream Home is here... literally here in Utah.

Have you seen this years HGTV Dream home? I will confess I have entered my name in every day in hope this gorgeous river retreat could be mine. My husband would be thrilled to live that close to the Provo river, he loves to fly fish, and I would not mind all the free furniture from Ethan Allan. The fact that the home is in Midway, Utah makes feel I have a good chance, but let us be realistic.... nonetheless it makes for great eye candy.

Put it on the tab

I was shopping for a client today and scored some great finds.

The first being these bohemian throw pillows from Target.

I was tickled pink to find hardware at World Market for only $2.99. Goodbye $12 knobs from Anthropologie.

I debated over these...

and these for 10 minutes. For only $2.99, I purchased both.

This great accent table was on sale also at World Market!

I found these dining room chairs at Home Goods, fully equipped with a streamline shape and a nailhead detail. The fabric is leather instead of linen which means easier to clean and practical for children. I will take 6 please :)

House Flip Progression

I thought I would share the progress of one of my house flips. This home is a 4 bedroom bungalow up Emigration Canyon and already has a lot of charm.

When I walk through a home, I ask myself what items can stay. For example, the exposed brick fireplace below. The builder wanted to sheet rock over it, but I said absolutely not! The expose brick is original to the home and adds character. Wouldn't you agree? I feel that a buyer would. I updated the fireplace by adding a custom made mantel and we are soon going to apply a sealer to bring out the color.

House Flip

A few months back I joined a team of investors that flip homes. My role is to take care of the "fluff stuff" and design with a buyer in mind. Does it sound glamorous? It is, but mainly because I love a design challenge. For those of you not familiar with flipping, the first thing you need to know it's all about the benjamins. The entire design is driven by cost which means I need to be get very creative and resourceful. I have acquired vast knowledge about the tricks and trade of the flipping industry and continue to learn more with each house. I am happy to share my tricks at a later date, but for now I want to share a few images from my very first flip.

The following is a condo nestle right between Big and Little Cottonwood Canyon, a prime location for someone wanting to be near a handful of Utah's best ski resorts. My design challenge was to create a "Rustic Contemporary" feel on a shoe string budget, I posted my conceptual here. Hopefully this place is for an out-of-town buyer who loves the snow. I even included a ski room in the basement.

A New Year = Change

Those close to me know that I am a creature of change. I love change and find that my personality adapts to it very easily. In fact, I become quite restless when there is lack of change in my life. In my job, in the seasons, in my home decor, in my environment... basically in most areas in my life. It is both a blessing and a curse depending on the day.

I don't know about you, but when aspects in my life shift, or change, it forces me to re-evaluate my purpose and what I want to get accomplished. Change, to me, is a good thing and I welcome it with open arms. Which brings me to my 2012 New Years Resolutions...

Like most of the blogs I read today, my 2012 goals are:
1. Give my blog another facelift; a new look, new material, new name...maybe even a tummy tuck.
2. Finally get a decent "professional" photo and take down the picture of me in my wedding dress (which by the way I cropped so most of you wouldn't notice).
3.I vow to be more honest with the 24 followers that are willing to read this blog. May I start by saying that I don't really love to blog? Mainly because I am not a great writer and also because it can be exhausting in the blog world. There I said it.
Oh, may I also add that the majority of my posts will probably have misspelled words. I am more right brain then left brain which is my excuse for why I am not a great speller. But, I will work on this too.
4. Another goal is to blog more about my personal life. Up until now I have shied away from getting too personal. I wanted to keep this blog strictly professional, and still do, but need to put myself more out there in order to connect with whomever is willing to read.
5. Finish my website

I will end at 5 because in the design world things are better in odd numbers. I am really excited for the change 2012 will bring.

Happy New Year!

New Zealand

I am here in New Zealand visiting family and I am seriously considering staying for the rest of my life! Between the 11 hour flight, 15 hour layover in Figi, another 4 hour flight to Auckland, 30 minute fairy ride to Wiaheke Island and a little exploring, I found some time to post these pictures. This was the best way to bring in the New Year, I would not want to be anywhere else but here celebrating with with these people...Happy 2012! I will keep in touch.
