Design Help for a Barbara Barry Fan

My sister Kelly called me from California yesterday and this was our conversation:

Kelly: "Ashley, I need design help!"
Me: "Hello Kell."
Kelly: "My dining room needs a major design transformation."
Me: "You mean room that has been unloved and unused for years?!"
Kelly: "Yes."
Me: "I have been waiting for this day to come!"
Kelly: "Ha ha, well I know what I want the space to look like, but I not sure how to achieve the design. I need some design direction and I don't have time with my two kids to find the resources, drag them shopping with me or stock design blogs!"

I am sure there are many of you who can related with Kelly.

This is when a little sister, or an interior designer, comes in really handy! It is part my job to know where to look, provided the resources, steer you in the right direction and most importantly, save you time!

Kelly's design inspiration is the elegant and oh so talented Barbara Barry. (mine too)

So I created this conceptual design for my DIY client

Fallon Rug from
Gramercy Upholstered Chair from Ballard Design
Como Ikat Dijon Sunbrella from Ballard Design
Modern Glamour Hathaway Table from Ethan Allen
Modern Glamour Jaqueline Side Chair from Ethan Allen
Channing Silver Beaded Floor Mirror from William Sonoma Home
Crackle Jars with Brass Lids from William Sonoma Home
Rectangular Shade Pendant from Restoration Hardware

Lesson Learned

Thank you to everyone that voted for me on the Ivory Home Design Competition. It was a close call ,315 to 308, I barely made it! I had some very talented, tough competitors!

Special thanks to Tiffany, Amanda , Chris, Logan, my family, and my super competitive husband who spent hours on facebook getting people to vote. You guys are Marketing Rock Stars!

As silly and small as this little design competition was, it meant a great deal to me and I am humbled by the experience. It basically taught me to show up and support, especially when it counts, like so many did for me last night.

Thank you!

My sister-in-law will probably disagree with me on this post. She would never claim to be a "designer." Tiffany is too modest for that. However, her current home renovation is proof she has great taste and an eye for design.

It is no easy task turning a home from 1977 into a modern, livable space while still showcasing the home's charm and personality. Fortunately for this home, Tiffany appreciates vintage.

I am so proud of her hard work and feel honored she calls me randomly for design advice - like when she is in line at Home Depot wanting to know high gloss or semi gloss paint.

She still is the process of completing the home, but I wanted to show off the baby nursery.

February's Designer of the month is Mrs. Tiffany Rueckert.

More about Tiffany and photos at Likely Stories. She is pretty entertaining!

Dream Home Details

There is a folder on my desktop labeled "Dream Home." As I browse the internet for conceptual ideas for clients, now and again I stumble upon design elements I would want in my own day :) I thought it would be fun to share a few of the details.

Wood Ceilings for a rustic feel. The candle light that reflects off of the vintage mirrors create an very intimate feel for family dinner.

I would love to do something like this in my husband's home office. The colors and leather furniture give the space a masculine feel without screaming bachelor pad.

I am obsessed with the color green and want this couch in the same style and fabric.

I am mostly drawn to the stripe rug and the chalk board walls which add some playfulness to the hallway.

I love this kitchen minus the light fixtures and flooring. Must have the large windows that go all the way down to the floor, you are able to enjoy the outside while inside. The long vintage wood table provides plenty of room for cooking and people to eat at.

I love, love, love exposed brick and again the large floor to cieling windows.

A barn sliding door somewhere in the house is a must!

Love is in the Details

The photos are almost ready from the home I decorated a couple of weeks ago. I know I hinted the images would be done this week, but I am still working with the wonderful photographer to get them just right. Hopefully these detail shot will peak your interest and keep you wanting more :)
